WEEKEND NATURE PROGRAMS & HIKES

FEBRUARY 5 - 7, 2010

FRIDAY
8:00 am BIRD WATCHING HIKE - Meet at 40-Acre Lake rest rooms. Bring binoculars.
11:30 am STORY TIME (IP) - Listen to the book Pouncing Bobcats followed by show and tell with a pelt, skull and tracks.
1:30 pm ALLIGATOR VIDEO & TALK (IP) - Learn about North America's largest reptile and Brazos Bend's most popular resident.

SATURDAY

9:00 - 11:00 am JR. ANGLER EDUCATION - Learn the basics and ethics of fishing. Open to 30 participants ages 6 and up accompanied by an adult.
10:00 am CREEKFIELD NATURE HIKE - 1/2 mile, paved trail, approximately 1.5 hours
1:30 pm STORY TIME (IP) - Listen to the book Armadillo Rodeo & make macaroni armadillos.
2:30 pm REPTILE VIDEO AND TALK (IP) - This video reveals the alien world of these often misunderstood cold-blooded vertebrates.
3:00 pm PHOTOGRAPHY WALK - Join Dr. Laszlo Perlaky for bird photography walk #1. Bring your own equipment.
4:00 pm ANIMAL TRACKS (IP) - Learn to identify tracks of common mammals.
5:00 - 7:00 pm THE BRAZOS RIVER PICKERS - Join us for an evening of bluegrass music at the Amphitheater by the Nature Center. Bring seat cushions or lawn chairs.

SUNDAY

8:00 am BIRD WATCHING HIKE - Meet at 40-Acre Lake rest rooms. Bring binoculars.
10:00 am CREEKFIELD NATURE HIKE - 1/2 mile, paved trail, approximately 1.5 hours
1:30 pm THE WONDERFUL LIVES OF SNAKES (IP) Learn the facts about the animals most people love to hate! Live, non-venomous snakes.
3:30 pm OWLS, FROM HEAD TO TALON (IP) - Learn about the adaptations of owls that make them the top predators of the night sky.

All programs are free and will begin at the Nature Center unless otherwise noted.

(IP) denotes indoor program with limited capacity. Programs start ON TIME. Late arrivals may not be permitted.

All programs are posted one week in advance and are subject to change without notice.

Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Monday – Friday, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
Also open 9 – 5 most holidays except Christmas Day

The purpose of the Volunteer organization is to assist and educate the visitors of Brazos Bend State Park through
information and interpretive programs and to assist in the care and conservation of the Park.
