Nature Center opened regular hours 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Jr. Naturalist Challenge - 2 badges in one day? Challenge accepted!! – Brazos Bend State Park has a self-guided program to earn patches. Explore the park and find the answers. Earn your free Fawn patch. Challenge yourself to earn your Raccoon patch on the same day! Information and your packet is waiting for you at the counter when you first walk into the Nature Center.


Programs take place at the Nature Center unless noted otherwise.

9:00 - 10:00 a. m. Make a Seed Ball - Plant Native Wildflowers for Native Pollinators - Meet volunteers at the Nature Center to discover just one way to propagate wildflowers for pollinators.
10:00 a. m. Creekfield Hike - See the best of what the park has on offer in just a 1/2 mile paved walking trail, plan for 1 hr. with our knowledgeable volunteer guide. Dress for the weather.
11:00 - 11:30 a.m. Wading Birds Story Time Read a Story and Make a Craft - Do not miss out on a visit with our resident story teller in the Nature Center Forest Room
11:30 - 12:30 p.m. Yoga on the Nature Center Lawn - Introduction to yoga class with slow flow sun salutations offered by our very own yoga instructor certified ranger. Some mats available.
11:30 a. m. Hike with a B.A.R.K. Ranger at Elm Lake - Learn about dog etiquette on the trails! B.A.R.K. stands for Bag your poop, Always wear a leash, Respect wildlife, Know where you can go. This is a 2-hr. hike around Elm Lake trail with our favorite park ambassadors, B.A.R.K. Rangers Luke and Darwin. People with dogs and, as always, without, are welcome. Meet at the Elm Lake restrooms!
12:30 Bike Hike - (bikes available) - Ride along the back trails with Ranger Tito from Texas Outdoor Family. Bring your own bike or borrow ours, plan for 2 hrs. Start from the Nature Center. Come early to be fitted for one of our bikes if you plan to borrow. Please bring a helmet if you have one.
1:00 p.m. Story Time – Read ‘The Night Tree’ - In the Amphitheater you will find a storyteller. Come hear the tale of “The Night Tree”. You will then be invited to make your own bird feeder to take home in a plastic bag for your furry and feathered neighbors.

11:00 - 3:00 p.m. Visit with a Game Warden - Join Game Warden Emily Slubar to learn what it is like to be a Game Warden in Ft. Bend County.
1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Bees, Please - Ever thought of becoming a bee keeper? Learn all about it! Find volunteer Bill and his fantastic bees in front of the Nature Center.
1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Tree Cookie Ornament Station - Sliced tree limbs make a great template for creative mementos. Stamp a paw print and write your name on a take-home ornament.
1:15 - 3:00 p.m. Build Pine Cone Bird Feeders - Take home your own pine cone feeder.


1:00 - 6:00 p.m. Nature Watch Hayride - Come along with us on a hayride to discover the flora and fauna of Brazos Bend State Park! - Every 30 to 45 minutes, there is a new adventure to be had. A trailer hooked to our park vehicle follows Park Road 72 through the camping loops. At 10 MPH, what can you spot in the woods? Birds, armadillos and deer, oh, my! Learn how the residents of the park survive the cold in the wetlands. Line up in the Nature Center parking lot. You will find the marker!
1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Geocaching 101 - Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using PS-enabled devices. We will navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates within the Park and attempt to find hidden geocaches (container). For best results, download the Geocaching App on your phone (app located at https://www.geocaching.com/play/mobile), and set up an account prior to the session. If that’s not doable, come anyway and look over someone else’s shoulder to learn about this exciting global game.
1:30 - 2:15 p.m. Dress an Alligator - How has the alligator adapted to its home? Let us dress up an audience member to find out!
2:30 Orienteering for Beginners - Learn the basics; use a compass and a map to navigate the course with Ranger John from Texas Outdoor Family. Meet on the Nature Center Deck - plan for about 2 hrs. to learn to navigate, strategize and run the nearby course.
3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Make S'mores - Gather around the open campfire and cook up a treat that is fun to eat with our best volunteer S’more Masters! We’ve got all the fixings.
3:30 - 4:30 p.m. Snakes Alive! - These amazing predators eat and are eaten, keep the ecosystem in check and have some pretty neat adaptations. Come meet some of our snake ambassadors and learn what makes them special.
3:00 - 4:30 p.m. Pond Life at the Observation Tower - What do you think swims just below the surface of our waters? Let’s discover together! We have tweezers to pick through the muddy waters. Find beetles, leeches, crawfish and more.
6:00 p.m. 40 Acre Lake Night Hike - Do you know what critters come out when the park turns dark? Join us for a hike around the lake to find out. Bring a flashlight, infrared if you have it, closed-toe shoes and your curiosity. This is 1-mile easy grade hike. Plan to be on the trail for 1.5 hrs.
